OSU student veterans recognize special faculty and staff assistance

The Oklahoma State University Student Veterans Organization recently honored Ms. Ruthie Loffi and Dr. Neil Hoffman with special service awards recognizing exceptional assistance to student veterans in their educational pursuits this year. In addition, the Office of Veteran Student Academic Services at OSU recognized Dr. Jason F. Kirksey for his support and advocacy of veterans.

Cassidy Joins HCCP as Assistant Director

Dr. Cassidy began the new position on September 11 and assists the head of HCCP, Dr. Julie Koch, with managing the School.

Education Professor Receives National Science Foundation Grant

The National Science Foundation recently awarded Oklahoma State University science education associate professor Julie Angle $599,652 for a project that will focus on authentic undergraduate research experiences for future science educators. The three-year grant comes from NSF’s Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Education and Human Resources.

The method continues to work for Angle, now an associate professor in science education, as she was recognized with the Oklahoma State University Regents’ Distinguished Teaching Award for 2015. The award is given to one faculty member in each college each year. Recipients must have evidenced unusually significant and meritorious achievement in the instruction of students for a number of years. Though Angle has received numerous accolades through her career, the Regents’ award has a special meaning.

Zahl to Serve as Chair for NCTRC Board of Directors

Melissa Zahl, associate professor in recreational therapy, has been elected chair of the board of directors for the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), the premier credentialing organization for the profession of therapeutic recreation. As chair, Zahl will be responsible for supervising and controlling all the business affairs of the organization, including presiding over meetings, serving as the principal officer, making policy and fiscal decisions and directing the work of staff and committees.
